# Two-Step Equations

*Example: *3 + 10*r* = 163

__Step 1:__ Subtract 3 from both sides, 10*r* = 160

__Step 2:__ Divide both sides by 10, *r* = 16

You can also check if your answer is correct.

Put *r* = 16 on the left hand side of given equation, 3 + 10 (16) = 3 + 160 = 163, which is the same as the right hand side. So, the answer is correct.

*Example:* -2*p* + 1 = 1

__Step 1:__ Subtract 1 from both sides, -2*p* = 0

__Step 2:__ Divide both sides by -2, *p* = 0

**Check you answer: **Put *p* = 0 on the left hand side of given equation, -2*p* + 1 = -2(0) + 1 = 1, which is the same as the right hand side. So, the answer is correct.
