# Two-Step Equations

A two-step equation is an equation which needs two steps to solve.

Example: 3 + 10r = 163

Step 1: Subtract 3 from both sides, 10r = 160

Step 2: Divide both sides by 10, r = 16

Put r = 16 on the left hand side of given equation, 3 + 10 (16) = 3 + 160 = 163, which is the same as the right hand side. So, the answer is correct.

Example: -2p + 1 = 1

Step 1: Subtract 1 from both sides, -2p = 0

Step 2: Divide both sides by -2, p = 0

Check you answer: Put p = 0 on the left hand side of given equation, -2p + 1 = -2(0) + 1 = 1, which is the same as the right hand side. So, the answer is correct.

#### Check Point

1. Solve for b: -3b + 2 = 26
2. Solve for x: 1 – 3x = -8
3. Solve for m: -2m + 2 = 14
4. Solve for x: -4x – 1 = 27
5. Solve for k: 1 – 3k = -7
1. -8
2. 3
3. -6
4. -7
5. 2
