We were very happy with the intermediate SCAT review. We only had 2 days to review, and so we only did the quantitative portion. It helped my daughter go from 35% to 72% in 2 days on the practice exam. Suprisingly, she also got 72% on the actual SCAT to end up at 94 percentile. I don’t think she could have done this without eTutorWorld.

Personalized Online SCAT Tutoring

As a bewildered parent or student, you must be often scanning the internet desperately for SCAT help, an advanced SCAT practice test and anything that helps your child qualify the gifted test.

Here’s how you can start prepping your child for the coveted JH-CTY SCAT.

  • Identify your child’s SCAT level. If you can’t, talk to our SCAT counsellor. Call +1 269 763 4602.

This is critical as your child will be competing against other gifted students of the same level.

An accurate diagnosis will help your child to tweak the glitches in her test taking ability so she qualifies the SCAT.

  • Submit your child’s SCAT application on the JH-CTY website with a date, time and location convenient to you. You should submit the application at least 3 weeks before your desired date for the gifted talented test.

Apply for a SCAT test date so your child has enough time to prep for the gifted child assessment with online SCAT practice tests and worksheets.

You can schedule a session for either the Math (Quantitative) or Verbal section. During this session, the tutor will diagnose and analyze your skills to plan your future prep path.

eTutorWorld offers personal online tutoring for SCAT Test Preparation. Each  session is 50 to 55 minutes. Study plans and learning schedules are customized as per your child’s abilities and time available until the SCAT test date.

Expert 1-on-1 Personal Tutoring, Now Affordable to All.
Every online tutoring session has 50 to 55 minutes of teaching time.

No credit card required. No obligation to purchase

How do I know if I am eligible?

The School and College Ability Test (SCAT) is available to students in grade 2 and above. You can apply on the JH-CTY website, after which you’ll get an eligibility number. Once you qualify the SCAT at your level, you can attend a John Hopkins Summer Program.

What is a good scat score?

Your child’s raw score is converted to the scale score based on the test version and then compared to the results of the test scores of normal students in the higher-level grade. Hence, a good SCAT score varies with student’s grade at test. The score range and SCAT qualifying scores are:

How many questions are on the scat?

Each of the 2 SCAT sections has 55 questions. Of these, 5 unknown questions are experimental and 50 are scored. The two sections, each 22 minutes long, are separated by a 10-minute break.

What is the John Hopkins test?

The Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth is dedicated to identifying and developing the talents of academically advanced pre-college students around the world. Receiving a qualifying score at an accepted test can earn your child an invitation to one of CTY’s recognition ceremonies or the opportunity to enroll in their engaging summer and online programs. The tests vary by grade level.

For students in grades 2-8, the SCAT (School and College Ability Test) is a computer-based, timed, multiple-choice, quantitative and verbal assessment. With a short testing time and flexible scheduling, the SCAT is a convenient option for students looking to qualify for CTY programs.

For students in grades 5-6, the PSAT 8/9 is a timed, paper-and-pencil-based, reading, writing, and math assessment that measures your student’s college and career readiness. The PSAT 8/9 is a good option for students who want a preview of the SAT test.

For students in grades 5-8, the STB (Spatial Test Battery) is typically a computer-based test. It assess a student’s spatial reasoning abilities, which are important in studying math, science, engineering, and computer science.

The SAT and ACT assess what CTY Talent Search students in grades 7-8 have learned and predict how they will do in college. The SAT and ACT are a good choice for students who seek early exposure to this college admissions assessment.

What Do the Different Test Levels Mean?

The SCAT is an above-grade level test, in which scores of CTY Talent Search students are compared to scores of regular students two grades above.

The JH-CTY uses three levels of the SCAT:

  • Students in grades 2-3 take the Elementary SCAT designed for students in grades 4-5.
  • Students in grades 4-5 take the Intermediate SCAT designed for students in grades 6-8.
  • Students in grades 6 and above take the Advanced SCAT designed for students in grades 9-12.

What Types of Questions Are on the SCAT?

The SCAT has only multiple choice questions. There are 2 sections:

  1. Quantitative Section – has questions in the 2-column format and students need to select the quantity that’s larger. With Math statements given in both the columns students need to understand if the quantity in one column is equal to, greater than or lesser than the quantity in the other column. Accordingly they need to select the correct answer option.
  2. Verbal Section – The question pair of words is related in some way. Of the other word-pairs given as answer options, students need to select the most appropriate pair that is related in the same way as the question pair.

What makes eTutorWorld’s SCAT Prep Program the Best?

  • Individualized attention from tutors and structured formative SCAT assessments help students progress on every tutoring session.
  • Intellectually stimulating questions based on applications of concepts are the main challenges that students face in SCAT prep.
  • Being a part of the most popular SCAT tutoring Online company, our tutors explain the purpose behind each concept learned at school to solve challenging SCAT questions.

  • Any gaps in understanding are filled-in by our tutors in subsequent sessions.
  • Personalized SCAT Practice Tests and SCAT self-help worksheets created by our expert tutors during the program help identify your child’s talents, interests and abilities. This is important to get an edge over others and score top grades in SCAT test.
  • You can select from our 1-Hour5-Hour10-Hour, or 20-Hour SCAT prep program plans.

More about School and College Ability Test (SCAT):

SCAT is an above-grade-level test. SCAT test results show how a student’s SCAT score compares to that of students in the same grade and students in the higher grades for whom the test questions were originally designed.

The SCAT test has three different versions:

Elementary SCAT – Students in grades 2-3 take the Elementary SCAT designed for 4-5 graders.

Intermediate SCAT – Students in grades 4-5 take the Intermediate SCAT designed for 6-8 graders.

Advanced SCAT – Students in grades 6 & above take the Advanced SCAT designed for 9-12 graders.

The SCAT test has two sections, verbal and quantitative. Each section contains 55 questions, including five unidentified experimental items that do not count toward the student’s score.

Verbal Section

The verbal section also has questions that are multiple-choice analogies. Students are required to choose the best pair of words to complete an analogy. Thus, it measures a student’s understanding of the meaning of words and verbal reasoning ability.

Quantitative Section

The quantitative section has questions that are multiple-choice mathematical comparisons. A student is required to compare two mathematical quantities and determine which is greater. Problems are intended to measure mathematical reasoning ability and thus often do not require computation.

Each of the two sections is 22 minutes long, separated by a 10-minute break. The break is optional and student-directed.
