CAHSEE – the Test
In the state of California (US), it is important to pass the CAHSEE (California High School Exit Exam) to get a High School Diploma. More than 1.6 million students in grades 10–12 take this exam every year. About 80% of the sophomores pass each of the two sections on their first try.
The test ensures that before graduating from high school a student possesses grade level skills in reading, writing, and math.
You, as a student, can first take this test in grade ten. If you do not pass the test in grade ten, in grade eleven, you can take the test two times. In grade twelve, you’ll have up to five times to take the test. Further, even if you meet all high school requirements and do not pass the CAHSEE by the end of your senior year, you will not receive a high school diploma. CAHSEE practice equips a student better to pass the test earlier. And practicing for the CAHSEE with eTutorWorld is your best bet to get a good score.
Two Sections of CAHSEE: English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics.
The English section includes about 80 multiple-choice questions and students are required to write one or two multi-paragraph essays. The essay portion required the student to write a persuasive essay, a business letter, a biography, a reaction to literature, or an analysis on the subject of the question. The English section tests students at a 10th-grade level, and requires a score of 60% to pass.
The Math section includes about 90 multiple choice questions. The math section tests students at an 8th-grade level, and requires a score of 55% to pass. The exam includes statistics, data analysis and probability, number sense, measurement and geometry, mathematical reasoning and algebra. Students are also asked to demonstrate a strong foundation in computation and arithmetic, including working with decimals, fractions and percentages.
The CAHSEE is administered over two days, usually during a student’s 10th grade year in high school. On the first day, students will take the English-language arts portion of the test; on the second day, they will take the math portion.
