Find the length of the hypotenuse of a right triangle with legs of length 3 and 4.

Solution:

Using the Pythagorean Theorem, we have:

c^2 = a^2 + b^2

c^2 = 3^2 + 4^2

c^2 = 9 + 16

c^2 = 25

c = 5

Therefore, the length of the hypotenuse is 5 units.

A ladder is leaning against a wall. The bottom of the ladder is 6 feet away from the wall, and the ladder is 8 feet long. What is the height at which ladder touches the wall?

Solution:

We can model this situation as a right triangle, with the ladder as the hypotenuse, the distance from the wall as one leg, and the height at which ladder touches the wall as the other leg. Using the Pythagorean Theorem, we have:

c^2 = a^2 + b^2

8^2 = 6^2 + b^2

64 = 36 + b^2

b^2 = 28

b = sqrt(28)
